WHERE DID THE YOUNG PEOPLE GO?

The American Catholic community is facing a crisis.  The statistics;  while only 5-10% of young Americans a generation ago claimed no religious affiliation, recent research suggests that between 30-40% of young people today are "nones" (people claiming no religious affiliation).

This groundbreaking conference sponsored by Fordham University' Curran Center for American Catholic Studies will address this looming crisis.  One June 25th and 26th, sociologists, campus ministers, and professionals in young adult ministry will present and discuss recent research exploring this problem, along side "best-practice" techniques.  Please join us at Fordham University for this lively and important conference.

For more information please call (718) 817-0662.  Registration fee $50.00 payable by check or credit card.  There are rooms available on the Rose Hill Campus ($75.00 a night) and a limited number in Manhattan (At the Empire Hotel at $179.00 a night).  To reserve a room, email cacs@fordham.edu.

PURPLE LANCERS ORGANIZATION

The Purple Lancers Organization has found a way to memorialize and pay tribute to those who truly dedicated themselves in establishing the Lancers as an Auburn icon and leave a legacy for other generations to come.  The perpetual Flag of Honor has been created so that these individuals of yesteryear will have their names embroidered on a flag that will be carried by the corps at every parade, exhibition, concert and event.  Should the corps disband, the flag will be placed in a standard in the lobby of Memorial City Hall until such time that it will be reactivated.  The cost to enter your loved ones name on the Flag of Honor will be $100 per name submitted.  For placement of a name please go to the website at www.auburnpurplelancers.com for details.

INACTIVE CATHOLICS

Who are they:  Today, more than 20,000,000 baptized Catholics in he United States are no longer active in the life of the Catholic Church.  The Gallup Organization (2005) reports that about 1/4 of Catholics interviewed do not actively participate in a parish.  The magnitude of this number is more apparent when we realize that inactive Catholics make up the second largest "denomination" in the US.  Nevertheless, they remain our brothers and sisters in Christ.

Almost every Catholic who participates in a parish knows at least one person who is an inactive Catholic.  They are family members, relatives, co-workers, and friends.  Yet for a number of reasons, we are generally reluctant to talk to them about faith.  By extending an invitation, we act in love and help them feel welcome.  Through our caring and attentive presence, people will experience God's own abundant love for them.
